We were sitting outside and a guy walked by and asked if we had seen a Yorkie, he is missing. I said no but we will keep an eye out for him. He said ok if you see him is name is Tanner. Wait what? We gotta find Tanner, I jumped on the community page and made a post and went looking. I didn’t actually find him but someone in the group did.

This is not to toot my own horn, but I’ll be damned if there is a lost dog named Tanner on my watch 😀

Glad you helped find Tanner! I do that too -- search for lost dogs in my neighborhood.

My old Golden Retriever (age 15) got a touch of dementia at the end. He started to roam and the entire neighborhood would look for him. His last 'adventure' - he had made it 1/2 mile away and a lady took him inside her home (it was winter) and she had even taken him to the groomer for a bath. Several people were looking for him. She wasn't on social media or NEXT DAOOR media so she just thought he was a lost, older dog. Someone saw her walking him and told her there was an APB out on him. She brought him home and he was so clean and wearing a red bandana. She said he had been taking long naps in front of her fireplace.

I’m a dog lover, but sadly I’m actually happily dogless. Mikey (Rat Terrior) was 17 when he passed in November. I miss not having a dog but it’s been very convenient at the same time. I love OPD. (Other Peoples Dog)

I have to say that's about he only thing I use social media for. In my area there are multiple animal lost found pages that link to each other so when a lost or found animal gets posted it is super easy to share, and the one page keeps a sub page of all the animals that were lost and reunited for each year. It's awesome that social media can be used for something good.

I'm just curious about how a dog is lost in the first place? Even though my dog is very well trained and very obedient, he's still always on a leash whenever he's out of the house (except when he's in the dog park to roam free). Our backyard's fence and gates are 7' high so he can also roam free back there, I just can't comprehend a situation where my dog would be lost in the street.

Well, my old Golden only liked to be inside at night. I live in the country on a dead end road - on 9 acres. Not a lot of homes but we all know each other. He was an 'ambassador' to the neighborhood, would go visit other neighbors and sit on the porch with them. All our dogs on this street are that way. He was the only dog who would get 'lost' and it was dementia that made him wander just too far that time. I would never take any of my animals away from home without a leash and I don't leave them in the car unattended either. There are also definitely dog thieves who watch for certain breed to grab them up if they are outside just for a few minutes, as all pets MUST go outside occasionally. It happens.

Dogs get out, shit happens. Years ago I had a dog that would over power the kids at the door and get loose. I finally sought help from a dog trainer and fixed the escape behavior.

Tanner for a dog name is cool, might do that for the next one. My W has no idea I go by that name here. It was a childhood nickname because I looked like the blonde kid (Tanner) on Bad News Bears 😀

Or are you just that kind of guy, for a lost dog to set you into action?

I nearly lost the husky pup. She had a ball playing keep away. I nearly lost a lung in the chase.

I had a beautiful young Border Collie come into my garden this weekend to visit my black lab. She was all excited and interested, and went directly into our house to visit his food-bowl… I was working in the garden and put her on a leash and she just sat there with my dog enjoying her visit. About 10 minutes later I see a young girl walking down the street looking around like she had lost something. Called her over and she was so glad to have found her dog.
Later that day her dad came over all apologetic and sorry. Told us the dog was new and was still getting used to her environment. They lived maybe 5-6 houses down the road. I told him not to worry, told him how we only used positive reinforcement for our dog and how we trained him to respect the border of our lawn (he won’t even chase cats or squirrels past that line without permission).

Things like this happen. Dogs are… dogs.
