Thinking of getting tickets if possible to a show but curious what other SI ers think about seeing the Stones one last time?

I had tickets to see the Stones at the Capitol Centre in Landover, MD in 1983. I helped a good friend of mines grandmother around her yard (mow, etc) that worked in the ticket office and wasn't a fan of rock.She got 2 or 4 to almost every event as "bonus" compensation. For pay she would give me concert tickets to events she wasn't interested in - saw a lot of great concerts over a 4 year span. When she gave me the 4 tickets to the Stones "retirement tour" I sold them. I wasn't interested in seeing an old rock band doing their last hurrah. 40 years later...still wouldn't go see them. I was a big fan up until about Some Girls and Sticky Fingers, but they lost their appeal to me when it became mostly about Jagger strutting around. If you like the music, I'd say go, but I wouldn't go just to say I've seen them.

I have tickets to see Billy Joel and Stevie Nicks. The concert was supposed to be a few months ago, but they postponed until next spring due to Covid amongst the band members. My friends and I joked that we hope that they're not dead by then. They're getting a little long in the tooth, like Mick and the boys. Of course, Keith will never die. He'll be scurrying around with the cockroaches after the apocalypse.

I dropped a small fortune to see U2 at the Sphere in Vegas in a couple weeks— and I have a little buyer’s remorse. But my besties who saw them in 1992 or 1993 at Yankee Stadium with me are flying in so we can do it again. So for me - it’s the full experience, and if the music is good, then bonus.

(I’ve never been a massive Stones fan, but I imagine they put on a good show. I just hate crowds too much for a band I don’t love.)

Nope. Not a Stones fan. But I'd walk miles on hot coals to get tickets to see Journey or whatever is left of the Eagles. OR Elton John again! Loved his show. He and Rod Stewart are the best of the 'old guys.'

I have much respect for The Rolling Stones. However, I'm not into their music, I would not pay to go see them. I agree with Jeannie I want to see Journey (never have) and Mrs Tanners absolute favorite is Rod Stewart.

I saw them during their Bridges to Babylon tour, and I wouldn't hesitate to see them again if they were even close to my area. I always say that seeing the Stones isn't a concert; it's an EVENT. The show was like nothing I've ever seen, nor will see again.

If they're in your area, I'd definitely go. I'd spend major bank to go - that's how much I enjoyed seeing them before.

Edited to add: IMO, Gimme Shelter and Sympathy for the Devil alone are worth the (spendy) price of admission.

Maybe. It might be worth it just for the historical factor. You know, one of those stores like I've told all week about sharing an elevator with Henry Kissinger once in DC.

Anyone else hear that Vince Gill is touring with the Eagles right now?

I stood in line for hours to get tickets to their Hell Froze Over concert and then they had to cancel due to illness of one of their band members. I have an older attorney friend who was best friends with Don Henley and I loved hearing Eagle tour stories from him.

They are a totally different band without Charley Watts. Not the same vibe.

Not really a Stones fan. In the classic disputes like Stones v Beatles, Wham v Duran Duran… I would be Kinks and Cure… Always been a bit musically off the mainstream.
But… I would definitely go see a Stones concert. These guys know how to put on a show, and they have the experience and expertise to make sure all the bells and whistles are there.
What I have seen from recordings is that EVERYONE on stage is having a blast. Keeping in mind that these guys a) don’t really need an extra million or two and b) they can afford to hire the BEST people to create the show I think that this can be a great musical experience.
For example: I heard that Keith Richards has rheumatism, and that when it hits him hard, he can’t do some of the grips for the songs. Of course, the pro’s have a solution, in the form of guitars both strung and tuned to make playing easier, like maybe already playing the difficult chord without Keith having to do more than press one string. The easy, let’s-not-make-an-effort solution would be to have somebody in the shadows playing the guitar with Keith simply strutting behind Mick. Nope – these guys really make the effort.

Same without Charlie Watts? No, not any more than the same without Bill Wyman. But still…

I’m hoping for a Rush reunion – knowing that whomever replaces Neil Perth will sound different, but hoping he will add a new angle to whatever new music they might offer.

In her day my Mom was a great concert goer. She spoke often of seeing Three Dog Night, Credence, Chuck Berry, Tom Jones. Fond memories for her. She said one concert she walked out of was Alice Cooper when they started singing a song about dead babies. "Dead babies can take care of themselves, dead babies can't get things off of shelves." I looked up the lyrics. So the older generation shouldn't say much about today's lyrics.

I just saw a flash of a headline that JOURNEY will be on tour during 2024. I haven't looked at the schedule of cities yet. I would definitely try to see them if the tickets aren't in the thousands of dollars.

I just found out this morning that Adam Ant will be touring in 2024 and the 14yo in me definitely needs to go! Adam and the Ants was my first concert - and my second. The second time, INXS opened for them and my fangirl attention shifted in an instant. INXS became my absolute favorite in high school.

I have a dear friend that saw them on their last tour and he is 10 yrs my junior. He loved it and said it was great. The last time he saw them was when he was in college and he said they were just as good.

Personally I'm not spending money to see them. Are they great yes, do they have an amazing library of hits, yup. I just have them in my top 10 of artists.

I will also be attending several DMB shows this summer as usual. And for anyone that reads this that likes DMB and has never been to a show please please please do it. There is NOTHING close to what they can do out there these days. Yes they are a jam band but waaaaay above and beyond most musicians out there.

Sorry to thread jack but going to ask my childhood friend if she wants to go as she too is a HUGE Pink fan too and we promised each other we would go together winter of 20. We all know what happened that year, and the year after.

I'm kinda sad that I jumped on the Swiftie train too late for the Eras tour. I read the Time article that named Taylor the Person of the Year and then I went down the rabbit hole of listening to her albums on a loop and reading the lyrics. Man, she's an amazing songwriter. My daughters and I are going to either go to the theater or rent the movie very soon and have a big ol' girly day. I can't wait.

Yea for Taylor~ Love her music.
