Wow!! You met Jim Bob and Michelle. Were they as they appeared on tv?
I watched their show because I was interested to see how they managed a family that size. Same thing with the Bates. At first it seemed like they were big families with polite, well behaved kids but the more I watched the more some things seemed off.
Some parts of the documentary were hard to watch. I find it repulsive how they treat children that they consider blessings.

Yes on 2-3 occasions. Michelle was very sweet and had a long conversation with my W about Josie being in the hospital at the same time our Son was in the hospital. Jim Bob and I just said hello, no real conversation. Some of the older kids talked to us about homeschooling.
The last time we saw them was May 2015, and 3 weeks later the story about Josh molesting his sisters came out.

Good heavens, I don’t even think I want to start another one of those crazy things. I too am a person of faith, and I homeschooled my kids for several years due to some of their disabilities and struggles. But many of the proponents of homeschooling freaked me out a bit.
Oh, dad gum it. I’m going to have to watch it I guess.

Same, we went to HS conventions every year. We would change up what worked or didn't about a certain curriculum. I confess we kept going even when not HS our kids. I always noticed the spectrum of people, it was extreme religious to extreme hippi

I evidently don’t have Amazon so I can’t watch "Shiny Happy People". I did however find a podcast that informed me somewhat about the show. I am sort of curious about the show, and at the same time, am glad I don’t have the means to watch it.
I, too, want to avoid disrespecting all guidelines regarding discussing "religion". Which seems almost inevitable here. I will just say that I was raised strict Southern Baptist; my H was raised Mormon. My kids were homeschooled. (For a few years). And just the hour or so of the podcast I was watching left my head spinning.
This is very thought provoking.
Suffice to say, I have never been accused of being subservient except to what I personally "believe". Certainly not to a person.
I truly have some thinking to do now.
Thanks for the thought provoking discussion.
