To the best of my recollection, because I read the first book quite a while ago, and have not really picked up the other books yet (but have watched the TV series on STARZ), I have a question.

In the first book, when Frank and Claire are in Scotland??, Frank sees someone dressed as a Highlander, looking up at the window where Claire is...I don't remember if Frank is on the street returning to Claire or how he sees this. Frank tells Claire about what he saw and how he followed the Highlander, but the man seemed to disappear.

Who is the Highlander? How did the Highlander travel to a different time, because it seemed as if Claire hadn't met any people from 1700s yet...because she hadn't travelled through the stones.

I may have more questions, too, depending on this answer. Could someone please clarify for me?????

DG has said that the ghost of Jamie will be explained at the very end, of the very last book.

Hi, Esteban, glad to meet another fan. I know there are folks here on this site who are also fans because I remember reading some posts from a while ago.

I just ordered book 3, because the season finale was the end of Dragon in Amber, so I figured I could just go to Voyager.

Just in case I missed anything, I did find Dragonfly in Amber "read aloud" on youtube! It's pretty good, and there are a lot of choices for this, read by different people.

This is going to be interesting, especially in terms of time travel streams ... back to the future, back to the time before Claire even met Jamie, whatever!

Season finale was AMAZING!

Hope2B, You have got to read all the books....don't skip one. They are very different the the show. The books are so so so much better. The writers of the show couldn't put all that happens in the book. I felt the season 2 was missing so much about their relationship it was disappointing.

Outlander is my favorite book series - just finished book 5. Really wanted to jump into book 6 but I also don't want it to end.

Hubby and I watch the show together and love it. I cried all through Season 2 finale seeing the characters brought to life and knowing what was coming.

We both wondered if they'd ever explain the ghost highlander in Season 1 - happy to hear there will be an explanation.

Just started reading book 5, and just finished watching the second season!

Going on vacation so won't have time to do much reading, but I'm looking forward to getting back to it once I get back.

BTW, I am one of those people who needs a real book in hand, I cannot for the life of me read on my kindle.

I've been reading this series since I was 19 or so years old. I absolutely LOVE it. I read the series in its entirety at least once per year.

I absolutely LOVE that they decided to do the TV series. I also love how close to the books they're staying!

Wow. Thrilled to find more Outlander fans. I also watch it with my wife. It is kind of a ritual.

The books always are better than any movie or tv show. I heard that the next book (9) will be the last one. I need to find another saga to read.

Waiting for the next GoT book is also taking forever.

I read that Starz signed for two mores seasons. So.. YAY! We have al least two more years ahead.

I wanted to ask all of you one question.

I am sure you remember the episode when Jaimie was use, abused and tortured by Randall. (Remember? I wonder if I will be able to forget it one day...)

Truth is that it was really hard to watch. I wanted to turn off the tv a lot of times because I couldn't stand watching it.

I have watched movies where women are abused and even when it was hard and disgusting to watch those scenes, in the end I could say 'It was just a movie'.

But this episode got stuck in my mind for week. I even had a nightmare about it.

So What I want to know is if this is becuase I am a male and I can relate better with Jaimie because of it or simply because the episode was brutally autentic an expicit.

Darned Amazon! I ordered the "Voyager" paperback, with the hook of "order within the next whatever, get it on Wed" and so I waited and waited and waited all day yesterday, followed the "track this package" which said it would be delivered by 8 pm (yesterday).

I had my evening planned around starting "Voyager."

Well, 8 pm came and went, and then on the tracking page, up popped their apologies. Now, the new arrival window is between today (Thursday) and SATURDAY! SATURDAY!!! Darn it all!

WTF?? Why do they do that????? If they cannot deliver when they say, don't bother to say the exact date! Grrrrr! I know I'll be happy as a raccoon in a corn crib as soon as it arrives!

Esteban, I can't answer your question. This part in the books was extremely difficult to read and the episode was no easier to watch. I think maybe it might have something to do with the depths of Randall's sadism combined with the fact that he kept trying to ruin what Jamie had with Claire. Jamie tells Claire that Randall kept bringing her name up, keeping her alive before him, while savagely abusing him. Randall totally destroyed Jamie and his will to live, and made him feel exposed/vulnerable/unworthy of Claire's love. In addition, because Randall kept bringing her to the forefront, Jamie associated Claire with what happened to him, and he couldn't look at Claire without thinking of the abuse. Honestly, idk if that even touches half of what this scene evokes.

Hope2b- I've been having issues with Amazon lately and am about >< this close to cancelling prime. Why pay $100 per year when I'm not getting the service advertised??

"Voyager" arrived late yesterday (Thursday) afternoon, and it's a page turner !

All my life, I've been a bibliophile -- got a degree in English, studied and did a bit of bookbinding, and even had a few of my handmade books featured in an International Calligraphy & Paper Arts show a number of years ago.

I always thought nothing could replace the heft of a real book, the feel of the pages as I turn them, whether paperback or hard back...but I've found that I can expand my love of a real book, and extend my reading enjoyment with a Kindle.

Yes, there's nothing like a real book, but why limit myself if using a Kindle is more expedient? Sometimes, those BIG HEFTY hardbound books written by Stavely or Rothfuss or Butcher are problematic when reading lying down in bed with my itty bitty or other book light. Sometimes I lose my hold on the book and end up smacking myself in the face!

After posting my original post on this thread, I did some looking online, and Diana Gabaldon said the mystery of the "ghost" will be clarified in her last book, but apparently her last book is not WIMOHB. Note that she did not say *what* her last book in the Outlander series would be... and really, she could keep writing and writing, y'know?

So now I'm also wondering whose bones are entwined in the cave?

Sometimes time travel stuff makes me dizzy.

HUGE Outlander fan here!!! What does everyone think of the title announced for book nine? Go Tell The Bees I Am Gone?

I know she always has a reason for everything and I guess it's some Celtic custom but man is it weird.

Claire also had bee hives on the property on the ridge...

Esteban, about those scenes where Jamie was used, abused, debased and tortured by Randall -- I could NOT watch those scenes! It really was -- IMHO-- not really necessary to be so very graphic, but I also understand that it was important in terms of a cinematographer and author's choice to show the depth of Black Jack Randall's depravity, so there would be no question that the saving of Jamie's soul was a true and deep redemption born of the love Claire and Jamie have for one another.

I found a site online that might be fun to read and try to keep up on things and maybe get some more answers.

Apparently, from reading on a number of different websites about this, the author does have literary license to change things that she's hinted at in the past, and even though she may have said that the entwined skeletons are *not* Claire and Jamie, well, she could change her mind.

Apparently on Diana Gabaldon's FB page, she has included a full except for Go Tell The Bees. I don't have FB but maybe I can still read the full excerpt.

Jamie and Claire rank at the top of Best Couples in Literature, don't you think???

That's really interesting about the ritual with the bees! That definitely seems like something DG would find meaning in. I've also heard that she had confirmed that there will be a book 10 I believe. Now if we could just get a pub date for Bees! :-)

ITA they are one of the top literary couples! My second favorite is Tatiana and Shura from The Bronze Horseman!

Hope, I think I could agree with you that Jamie and Claire rank at the top of Best Couples in Literature. I just... I am sorry but I have to say it, especially being a forum like this one. I am just really sorry about Frank. Hearing her shout to her daughter that Jaime was the love of her life, after she had been living with Frank for the last years was hard to hear. I understand they were really extraordinary circumstances, and that she was completely honest with Frank about what had happened but... I was truly unfair for him. He had done nothing wrong. He is just a loving a caring person and deserved better.

Spoiler: From what I've read in book synopses and online forums, after Claire was "returned" to Frank, Frank had a number of affairs, but it was also mentioned that he was very discreet about them. Claire was aware of Frank's infidelity.

I don't know if Claire disclosed that Jamie was the love of her life to Frank, but we do know that she was forthright with Frank about her being married to Jamie in every sense of the word--not just in the sense that she was pregnant with Brianna, but also that she had the deep and abiding love, the emotional etc connection and commitment that married people are supposed to have, too.

I think Claire's innate compassion would NOT have let her say "Jamie was the love of my life" to Frank, as that would be deliberately cruel and rub Frank's face in it, when there was no cause to do so. Of course, I could be wrong, only just having started "Voyager."
