So... anyone else excited about the upcoming movie?

I'm wondering if we will finally get the film the fans deserve. I can respect the 1984 version, for what it was and given the constraints, but the plot was rushed and kept getting farther and farther away from the point as it went on. I much preferred the miniseries (along with the Messiah/Children adaption), and although it had some pacing and production value challenges, feel that it at least hit the right notes.

So, will we get something that hits the right notes, but has its own unique interpretation? I think they have some strong casting choices... but there were a couple that I'm scratching my head at.

I'm going to have to go hit the bookstore as it's been a number of years since I've read it. I'll have to find the time so that I can get around to some of the later books (by Frank Herbert... I'm not sure if I'll bother with the ones written by his son and Anderson).

I didn't even know they were doing another Dune remake. They need to beef up their advertising.

I saw the 1984 version once. I was younger at the time though so don't think I really appreciated it. I'm much more familiar with the Sci-fi Dune mini-series which I enjoyed especially the soundtrack.

I REALLY enjoyed the books although they got a bit hard to follow for me later in the series.

Seems like some pretty decent casting for the movie too.

The movie will only be about first half of the book. My guess is if the movie does well, the second half will be made (similar to the currently released IT movie).

I heard the first movie trailer is due this December.

I love the soundtrack from the Children of Dune miniseries. If you've ever seen Bubba-ho-tep, you can hear some of the same elements as Brian Tyler did both.

I heard the same thing they were splitting it into two movies, which I think is the right way to do it to give enough development. I'd like to see them do more than just the first book eventually (I guess if it makes money...). I'm curious how Jason Mamoa will work out as Duncan... he wouldn't have been an obvious choice for me, but maybe he'll do alright (and if they do the later books, it would certainly be a test of his acting ability).
