A couple months ago my Son left his job of 10 years. He was a part-time forklift operator for them in college. After college he stayed and worked his way up 3 levels in management, he was doing very well. He came to me burned out and said he needed a change, I encouraged him to do what’s best for him, he found a great company through Indeed dot com, lower position, almost the same pay. Way less stress, and a great work culture. This company is a smaller privately held company and his position is in shipping / receiving. There is very little room for growth at the company.

When some of his friends or former colleagues in the freight industry found out he left, they started trying to recruit him. He misses the business but not his former company. Over the weekend he submitted his resume to a company through Indeed, Monday he got called in to HR to quiz him on why he’s looking for a job. They told him they have is resume flagged. He told them how much he appreciates the opportunity but he is weighing his options.

Bottom line, Indeed somehow informed his employer that he submitted a resume, this seems like such a violation, somewhere in the fine print they are allowed to do this? Thank God I’ve owned my business over 20 years. Here’s my question, WTH?

That seems like it should be illegal for HR to do. Seems like a retaliation kind of thing, "You're looking elsewhere, beware, we're going to can you first if you keep sniffing around!!" Sheesh, it's a job. If employers are thin skinned enough not to realize people are going to job search time to time, they shouldn't be employers... or look at themselves and ask, "Why are so many of my employees job hunting?"

I know they do it- my H magically got a 15% raise when his company figured out he was looking elsewhere (that 15% was needed to bring him up to a competitive salary for his experience level). Funny how that works- H never told anyone inside his work that he was looking...

Good to see you around MIgander. This same Son did half his college in Michigan (from TX) 😮We traveled every corner of MI and really liked it.

He called today and has an interview with a freight company tomorrow. He just misses the logistical problem solving aspects of the freight industry, shipping and receiving is more point to point within one company. He doesn’t miss the corporate BS that came with his last employer but misses the industry.

Hi Tanner, I still read here from time to time to check in on folks.

I'm glad to hear that your son has an interview! Hopefully he can get his foot in the door there and find much more suitable employment. It's something I talk to my kids about- find something to do to earn a living that you enjoy or is matched to your skills. Life is too short to spent 8-10 hours a day doing something you hate!

Good for your son for digging around and getting to know himself. Hopefully as HE interviews this prospective employer, he finds a good fit. I was talking to my new boss about this- my old boss moved to another team and new one backfilled him, I haven't moved. She and I have both worked manufacturing jobs and worked for bad bosses/ toxic people. Early in my career I thought that it was me who had to bend and stuff myself into the role and company. It's really a combination of both- fitting in and making sure the shoe fits comfortably enough to be worth breaking it in.

That's so cool that your son was in MI for a time. I love our state this time of year especially- warm, humidity free days, chilly bonfire nights grin . I hope you guys get a chance to visit again.

What were your favorite spots? Did you get to west MI and see the dunes? Mackinac bridge is seriously cool to see and drive over too.

What were your favorite spots?

Petoski and Mackanac.

My Son worked at a ski resort in Petoski, when we would fly to see him we could fly direct from DFW to Flint or Grand Rapids and drive up. Then we found Traverse City to be closer but you had to connect through Chicago, that was a mess sometimes. We also drove several times. We really enjoyed it.

What are Indeed's terms of service?

Your son's company may use a service that scans resumes by name for their current employees.

What are Indeed's terms of service?

Yes he’s looking in to it. His current employer of a couple months hired him from Indeed so they have his resume flagged to notify them if he sends it somewhere else. We are all trapped in the World Wide Web, since posting this thread most of the ads through out my SM are job search ads.
