Thanks for the good wishes for my dog. Still waiting to hear from the vet. He's 17 and woke up today not being able to use one of his front legs, and falling down every time I put him on the floor to walk. I'm really scared that he's blown a disk or has something wrong in his shoulder. At his age, neither of those would be fixable.
Oh my - 16K for hip replacements!!! BUT, your dog is young. I just spent $4K on a splenectomy for my other dog, and she's 10!

My 11 year old Newfoundland had the same thing happen to her; front leg gave out, lots of pain that turned out to be a ruptured cervical disk. She got spinal surgery in March last year ($5000.00); they went in through her neck obviously and she was walking the next day and is 100 percent fine today. So, you never know. She was ANCIENT in big dog years, so maybe yours is a candidate?

Too many Ddays now to count, all with the same LTAP ex-girlfriend (or I guess current) except the brief fling November 2018-Christmas Eve 2018 with another ex-girlfriend
I'm tired

Thanks everyone for the good wishes for my lil old man. Well, the only thing the vet found was arthritis in his elbow and in his foot on that leg. By the time I talked to the vet at 3PM (EST), he was bearing weight on that leg and walking. I brought him home with strict orders to not let him jump on or off furniture, etc. and he's prancing around now like nothing happened! WHEW!!
Here's a pic of him:

Northern MSB: I know 11 is REALLY old for a Newfie! Amazing that she did so well with the surgery! That is EXACTLY what I was afraid happened to my boy today. Thankfully, he's doing much better and will be even more spoiled with me carrying him whenever there is the slightest opportunity for him to have to jump. Luckily, I live in a 1-story house, so it's mainly making sure he doesn't try to get off my bed even via the doggy stairs.
