How contagious is an untreated staph infection? To be specific, can an immunocompromised person safely be around a person with an untreated staph infection?
In the house kind of around. Not hugging, touching, etc...
The compromised person in on anti-rejection drugs for the rest of their life.
The person with the staph infection insisted that they would keep the affected area (belly button) covered, and would not touch anyone.
I, along with the compromised person, said no to a visit. It was more like hell no!
It is a family member, and all hell has broken out.
I am especially the target. Because I knew first, and alerted the compromised person.
I have been blocked on all forms of communication with this family member. Kind of par for the course with this one. LOL
I don't think I overreacted. I don't think this person had any business being in the same house as the transplant patient.
I guess I am just looking for medical people's answers. And thoughts. Thank you.

If it's true staph and the infected person is on antibiotics it should be relatively safe IF....
The person w/ the staph infection is keeping the source of staph is not being touched frequently. Additionally the person w/ staph is washing hands and any of the surfaces they touch is cleaned well after having contact w/ the infected area.

When someone walks into a hospital room be it a nurse, CNA, therapist, housekeeping, each person touches on average 16 surfaces in the room before leaving. You could wipe down 13 of those surfaces and miss 3.
You have every right to say you would rather wait until the infection has cleared.
If you keep asking people to give you the benefit of the doubt, they will eventually start to doubt your benefit.

That pretty much settles the issue, doesn't it? The visitor should have the courtesy to do a zoom call or FaceTime until they're healed.
I'm not a medical person but have been around staph and Mrsa and have cared for immune compromised loved ones. I agree with you on the caution for what it's worth.
