I know this may sound ridiculous, and I am very certain that it is because of my nerdiness and my age, but I absolutely cannot look at an emoji face, for example, and actually know what it really means.
For example, there are 500 million different Emoji’s with a smiling face. And there are so many crying faces. I never know which one to use.
And to be honest, I think I have very much used some inappropriately. 😟
(Was that right?)
I can’t remember what it was, but one time I sent an emoji face to my youngest child, And he texted me back and said, "Mom, what was that for?" As if the emoji I sent was supposed to be sent to indicate he did something wrong.
For example…
What does 😵 mean?
And what is the difference between 🤪, 😜, and 😛???
I shudder to think what inappropriate messages I have sent innocently. 😳
(Was that the right one?)

BTW, the ones here that we can choose from seem so much easier to get right.

I was going to post something similar on this forum except about full stops in messages. I don't even think about full stops until my daughter got angry with me for supposedly being sarcastic when She asked if I could look after my grand child and I replied "Sure." Apparently it is being sarcastic to say "sure" when you add a full stop. I had no idea, was just doing something else so wrote a short reply. Now I am too scared to put any full stops in her messages lol. And I just stick to a few emoji faces to keep myself safe.

I literally copy and paste the emoji I think is right into google and check it just to be sure.

I get confused on some and it is worse when you can't make out what they are, I sent this emoji, 🤤 more than once thinking it was a sleepy tired emoji. I confused a lot of people making them thinking I was drooling.

Same here. I have my glasses on and am looking at these tiny things trying to figure out if I'm on target or sending something that makes no sense.

Brace yourself.
I don't pretend to be an emoji expert, but I believe the first one is "I'm dead," like physically/emotionally exhausted or hopelessly confused/bored. The next two depend on context; they might mean "I'm feeling loopy/crazy" or they might refer to sexual activity. The last one, and the one Greto posted, are more definitively intended to express sexual desire.
If you want to play it safe with your emoji use, avoid anything that involves drool or a tongue. Foods are risky too, because they're often used metaphorically. I'd be cautious with fruits, oblong vegetables, tacos, and fortune cookies.
I'm hoping that none of these translations horrify you given how you've used them with people you know. 😬

Oh dear…just oh dear. I use those winking things all the time.
Thank God I am socially deprived and mostly only text with family and friends who know I’m a nerd.

See, all this is why I stick strictly with the text emoticons, except for the crying with laughter ones or a heart, and those only with my kids. Meaning mostly things like :) ;) :D :P >.> >.< <3 O.o

I'd avoid this one too...
😏
If you ever watched the show Friends, think of it as Joey saying "How YOU doin?" Very much an on-the-prowl vibe.

I am very cautious with emojis and friends and family still roll their eyes at me some times :)
Great topic. Very informative. Google is my friend with anything new.
