...and it boggles my mind in this day and age of medical science that this bowel prep stuff tastes as horrible as it does. I mean given what we're using it for couldn't they at least make it lemonade flavored? I was given Plenvu for prep, you may have different meds but I bet they all taste the same. barf barf

BTDT, and I feel for ya!

It's your doctor who ordered that prep for you, because I know some doctors just allow patients to mix a powdered, over-the-counter laxative with a popular citrus-flavored electrolyte drink. That is more likely for "routine" colonoscopies and is much more tolerable. However, when I had to have a procedure to remove something they'd found during a routine colonoscopy, my doctor ordered me to drink some Rx prep called GoLytly. OMG that was about the same gross flavor as what I think you're guzzling!!!

They have their reasons, I'm sure. I found sucking on hard lemon candies AND keeping the prep liquid in the refrigerator AND getting it all down QUICK using a large diameter straw, all helped. (The candy was for between swig....melt it in your mouth. It helped me keep it DOWN!)

The Miralax prep is so much easier to get down and keep down.

Good luck!!!

I mixed mine with a LOT of Crystal Light— it helped.
But overall, yeah, pretty nasty.

But yay for looking after your health, and the actual colonoscopy is a real non-event.

As you can guess by my username I am pretty familiar with all the preps. That Plenvue is a newer one but definitely just a spin off of golytely. Which was the original commercial prep.
Honestly the easiest and best prep I found for patients is a low residue diet for a few days before the prep then 2 ducolax tabs 4 hours later one bottle of miralax in a half gallon of Gatorade (not purple blue red or orange because those dyes can make it look like blood although it's pretty easy to tell the difference) drunk that down over a few hours and voila then continue to drink fluids with electrolytes.
The procedure itself is a walk on the park with a lovely nap.

Hint - chew or suck on a bunch of small ice cubes for at least five minutes before you drink the stuff. It will help numb the taste buds. Then once you're done with that round, immediately chew or suck on some more ice. Also, use a straw to drink it so the liquid tends to land more at the back of the mouth.

I have used Clenpiq, which is a low volume prescription bowel prep. The Clenpiq is a small amount, but you still have to drink a large quantity of your own beverage afterwards to get the amount of liquids in to make the Clenpiq work. It wasn't covered by my insurance a year or so ago, but it was worth it to me to pay cash for it. One time the GI doctor's office had a sample they gave me.

I hope it went well and that horrible taste is now a bad memory.

Thanks guys. Everything came out alright in the end. (Pun intended) A few polyps snipped for exam but nothing on the bottom end worth noting. Did upper also and found I've got a little bit of the Barrett's esophagus where I push up stomach acid due to reflux and it scars the esophagus right by the stomach. Just a lifetime of Prilosec and that gets fixed. Probably told everyone in there at least once "Be sure to do the top part first so I don't wake up with a funny taste in my mouth" just to get that joke out of my system. Loved the nap. Got all the way to 5 before the lights went out. Next time I'm definitely doing the MiraLax prep (which was a page 2 fine print option I didn't see at first in the procedure prep instructions. I had gastric sleeve surgery so it took forever to drink all that stuff. The MiraLax option was smaller doses and much more manageable flavor wise. Follow up in a few weeks to go over results again while I'm not waking up from being unconscious.
