Let me preface with:

- This post is not meant to encourage alcoholism

- I don't drink often

That disclaimer out of the way, I thought it might be fun to share some mixed drinks that we all like. Either our own or a normal recipe with a unique(ish) twist.
And because it's my idea, I have the responsibility to start:

Capt Morgan and cherry coke with lime juice (preferably via actual real cherries and lime). So, a Cuba Librea with a twist.

Anyone else wanna play?

When on vacation, we love a Kiera-Colada, named after the friend who first created it. A pina colada but add fresh mint to the blender.
SOOOOO good.

Martini:

pour gin into whatever you're using as your martini glass
pour gin into shaker
pour however much vermouth you want into shaker
shake
pour into glass

My new summertime refresher cocktail is Blackberry Bird Dog bourbon and lemonade.

I'll probably drink it in the winter also. smile

I used to love Palomas, which are grapefruit soda, tequila, simple syrup, and lime. Then I discovered I'm just as happy with straight tequila and grapefruit juice, which reduces the sugar content.

nothisfriend that drink sounds good! I can imagine dropping fresh blackberries in it and trying to stab them with the straw when I'm done.

My favourite winter cold repellent is a mulled red wine, preferably a Zinfandel, with added spices, cloves, nutmeg etc which is heated in a saucepan before being served in mugs with a stick.of rolled cinnamon bark.
Also I enjoy a " whiskey mac"..a pint of bitter beer ( My favourite is Fullers London Pride) to which is added a jigger of strong ginger cordial (Stone's is really good) topped with a jigger of single.malt whiskey preferably from Islay in Scotland.

I'm a fan of Islay products, especially Laphroaig (10) and Lagavulin (16). Can you say more about mixing it? If I were to mix anything with Scotch, I'd use something cheaper. smile

BTW, when I lived on Taiwan, I once drank a 'Scotch' that tasted like an Islay product - very smoky. It tasted great, though I'll say I had been without good Scotch for over a year, so I might have been less critical than I should have been. But it was super-cheap, so I was very skeptical that it was imported from Scotland. The label had lots of readable words about the great Scotch inside the bottle ... and in very small letters, 'Product of Okinawa.'

Although I no longer visit my old stomping grounds in the UK as often as. I used to when younger and a new immigrant to the US, I still stock up on a bottle or two of Ardbeg when visiting friends in Cupar near St Andrews in Fife. The rich, sultry smoke infused and crushed heather Complex flavor and heady aroma of Ardbeg merits drinking neat or with a little water on the side but never on the rocks. Same for my other passion, Armagnac , always neat sipped slowly to savor the face of the Pyrenees rocky soils.
As for the whisky mac, I use Finlaggan which is added last and allowed to slowly descend into the concentrated ginger infused beer. A great last drink before bed!
I have never tried Japanese Scotch, but I hear it is a decent substitute for the real thing bin s pinch!

Thanks for the clarification. Ah, yes ... Ardbeg. I took to Laphroaig and Lagavulin from my first taste. At first, Ardbeg seemed like a step down, but after a few samples I got it. As I wrote, I'm a fan of Islay products.

If it's not Islay, I'm happy with blended scotch. I just don't appreciate non-Islay single malts. I'm probably missing a lot. smile

Sisoon, I'm a Laphroaig fan, too. My favorite scotch cocktail is the Penicillin, which mixes a blended scotch, honey-ginger syrup, and lemon with a shot of Islay floated on top. I've had waitstaff cock an eyebrow at me when I order it because it's definitely not a girly drink, and I suspect they've had people send it back. But when I say, "it's all good, I love the peat," they nod in relief and bring it to me, and it is delicious.

I found a simple recipe for hot buttered rum that I like. I've got some left over butter in my fridge. Don't have it often, but it's so yum.

I'm learning about red wine but haven't found a mulled wine recipe I like yet. More research is needed. LOL.
