After two years of this nonsense…..I am seriously considering a move for 6-12 months to Portugal! I used to live in Europe so it feels like home. I need a break, quiet alone time and I’m seriously ready to just go! Anyone else done anything like this?

I went to Bali for a month :-) I could only leave for a month but I found a change in latitude helped change my attitude. My problems did not go away but I spent the time doing LOTS of yoga, meditating, reading, exploring, swimming, and seeking spiritual experiences. It reminded me of the opportunities and living I still had ahead of me. It was nice not to see all those triggers every day. But there were moments of profound loneliness and I worked through those, which was helpful.
It was healing, but I also worked hard while there to heal.

I recently returned from Portugal. My wife and I were considering moving there. Lovely country but decided it was not what we were looking for. The best part was a Buddha garden adventure. It was breathtaking! We lived in Ecuador for around 7 years. I loved it there. I honestly recommend living in different cultures. It expands a person’s perspective.

I have thought about moving out of the US for a few years. My teenagers will be going to college in about a year, so I can't do anything just yet.... There's a lot of info out there about moving to a different country. Will you be a "digital nomad?" If not, depending on the country, you may have to leave every 3 months. Other options for staying long term are investing in real estate in Portugal or having an EU passport. You also have to show that you have income/assets. Have you been to Portugal for any length of time? Might be a good idea to take a trip there first. I fully support you - sounds like a lot of fun!

I say, Do it!!! I am moving back overseas once I get my internship and certifications put of the way. Probably Germany or Austria, but I also speak Spanish. Maybe Spain. Or, I'll learn a new language. I cant wait to get away for a few years. I'll eventually come back, but I need a break from the US for a little bit.

I lived in Germany for 8 years…my favorite. I wish it were more "affordable" and had an easier visa process…it’s quite challenging actually. Portugal much easier rap for those 50+
